The House Judiciary Committee, led by member Jamie Raskin (D-MD), is investigating the US Department of Justice’s communications with Apple and Google. This inquiry focuses on the removal of apps that enabled users to report sightings of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers. In October, several applications were taken down from both Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store due to pressure from federal authorities. Raskin has formally contacted Attorney General Pam Bondi regarding this matter.
Raskin described the actions against ICE-monitoring applications as a “coercion and censorship campaign.” He argues that these efforts aim to silence critics of the Administration while obscuring evidence related to incidents involving ICE agents. Specifically, he referenced two Minneapolis residents, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, who were fatally shot by ICE agents under controversial circumstances. Eyewitness accounts have contradicted official narratives provided by federal leaders about these tragic events.
