X has implemented significant updates to the engagement requirements for its creator revenue share program, raising the minimum threshold for verified followers.
X’s creator revenue share initiative allows users to monetize their content based on interactions from verified accounts. Initially, the program focused on advertisements displayed to verified users in replies to posts. However, in October, X shifted to prioritize engagement with verified users, aiming to streamline the monetization process for content creators.
Despite these enhancements, challenges in payouts have arisen. X has now established that participants must have at least 2,000 verified followers to qualify for the program, a significant increase from the original requirement of 500 followers.
According to X:
“We’re raising the eligibility standards to better support our top creators. The updated criteria are: – 5M organic impressions in the last 3 months – 2,000 verified followers. Verified follower count is now accessible in account analytics.”
The addition of verified follower counts in analytics has been a highly requested feature, enabling creators to gain insights into how much of their audience contributes to their monetization strategies. This transparency can empower creators to optimize their content and engagement efforts.
Increasing the threshold for verified followers allows more creators to potentially earn higher revenues through the app. By ensuring a larger pool of monetizable followers, creators can tap into greater engagement opportunities, thus enhancing the overall monetization potential of their content.
This strategic change aims to ensure that creators who join the program have a better chance of receiving payments, as they will have a more substantial base of verified users within their audience. This can foster a more sustainable revenue model for active content creators.
By excluding non-paying users as a revenue source, X can allocate more funds to creators, drawing from income generated through verified subscriptions. This approach reduces reliance on ad revenue, which has faced a downturn this year.
X is enhancing the earning potential for creators through subscription models:
“Creators can now submit requests for price adjustments on new and existing subscriptions. These price change requests will be processed within a week and will take effect on a rolling basis as subscriptions renew.”
This newfound flexibility allows creators to modify the pricing of their subscription offerings, presenting additional avenues for monetization within the app. This feature could significantly enhance their revenue streams by aligning subscription prices with audience demand.
The concept behind these changes is intriguing, as X explores ways to ensure that users are compensated for their contributions, thus encouraging continuous engagement. However, numerous creators have expressed concerns regarding inconsistent payment amounts and varied experiences within the program.
This variability is not unexpected, as X is still refining its approach to facilitate equitable and financially viable payments. While limiting eligibility to verified users does have its rationale, it effectively excludes a large segment of X’s user base from participation in the program.
At this stage, the monetization offering may not be fully developed. Although users might argue that it represents an improvement, the true potential of this program seems closely linked to a broader ambition to attract a billion paying users through Elon Musk’s initial monetization reform strategy.
To date, approximately 1.3 million individuals have subscribed to X Premium.
X is actively promoting subscription sign-ups during the holiday season, yet current evidence suggests that a significant number of users are unlikely to transition to paid subscriptions.
It remains to be seen whether X can enhance its appeal through additional incentives, and if a resurgence in user activity will encourage more individuals to invest in the platform.
Currently, this offering appears tailored for a niche audience, specifically targeting users whose content resonates with X Premium subscribers.
