What Benefits Does Employee Involvement Bring to Gap Inc.?
Gap Inc. aims to leverage the insights and experiences of its employees to enhance the success of its creator program.
Launched in October, the initiative initially targeted creators aged 18 and older who have at least 1,000 followers on various social media platforms. Since its inception, the program has reached approximately 154 million consumers through nearly 30,000 posts, according to the press release.
“Our employees understand our brands, products, and customers better than anyone else,” stated Damon Berger, senior vice president of marketing shared services at Gap Inc. “By extending this program to qualified employees at our offices, stores, and distribution centers, we’re enabling them to become influencers. They can earn commissions and receive products while sharing their passion and authentically telling our brand stories.”
In a similar vein, David’s Bridal has also engaged its staff to enhance its customer outreach. In January, the bridal retailer introduced the “David’s Style Squad” ambassador program, which offers participants, including retail associates, commissions ranging from 5% to 15% on net sales, with select ambassadors earning up to 20% commission along with additional benefits.
As Gap strives to enhance its online visibility, its flagship brand has enlisted celebrities to promote its products through nostalgia-focused advertisements. About a year ago, Gap launched a denim advertisement featuring the girl group Katseye dancing to “Milkshake” by Kelis. Earlier this month, the brand collaborated with Hailey Bieber to unveil a limited-edition denim capsule collection, evoking the ‘90s with an ad showcasing a boombox, a corded phone, a vintage desktop computer, and a CRT television.
Recently, Gap also introduced a Happy Stripe capsule collection, which sparked online debates among consumers and influencers regarding its polyester material and printed mirage patterns.
Despite these controversies, the primary brand is positively impacting the company’s financial performance. Gap Inc. reported a 1% rise in Q1 net sales, reaching $3.5 billion, with its namesake brand experiencing a growth rate surpassing that of its sister brands.
“Gap is re-emerging as a key player in cultural conversations,” said Gap Inc. CEO Richard Dickson during an earnings call in May. “The brand is clearly thriving as an iconic American entity. We see significant potential ahead as we continue to gain momentum through exceptional products, compelling storytelling, and effective execution.”
