Kaylee Goncalves‘ father is actively engaging with lawmakers to eliminate commissary funds allocated to convicted murderers like Bryan Kohberger. In his vision, these funds would be redirected to cover the expenses associated with the execution of the convicted criminals.
We caught up with Steve Goncalves on Friday, and he revealed that he is collaborating with two Idaho lawmakers to implement a law that would require convicted murderers, such as Bryan Kohberger, to reimburse taxpayers for the substantial investigation costs incurred as a result of their heinous crimes. This initiative aims to hold criminals accountable not just for their actions but also for the financial burden they place on society.
The Goncalves family is taking a leading role in the movement for justice, occasionally collaborating with the family of Xana Kernodle to ensure that their voices are united in the fight against the injustices faced by victims of violent crimes.
Steve expressed his initial hope that the money from Kohberger’s commissary, funded by his disturbing fanbase, would be utilized to purchase the bullets needed for a firing squad during his execution. However, he lamented that this dream is now unlikely to materialize, especially after the prosecution opted to strike a plea deal with Kohberger, which he believes undermines the victims’ rights.
In addition to these concerns, Steve is deeply troubled about the release of crime scene photographs, including those that depict the bed where his daughter was brutally murdered. He emphasized that the families of the victims do not wish for these horrific images or details about the gruesome crime scene to be circulated, as they only serve to sensationalize the tragedy.
Steve added that the release of these details feels unnecessary, particularly since there is no longer a need to secure a conviction after Kohberger pleaded guilty. He believes that disseminating such graphic details is not relevant to achieving justice; instead, they merely serve to titillate the public.
As reported, Kohberger was sentenced to four consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole after committing the heinous murders of Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, and Madison Mogen, marking a tragic chapter in the fight for justice in Idaho.
During his victim impact statement, Steve boldly turned to face Kohberger directly, making a powerful statement about the pain he feels after the loss of his daughter. He confronted Kohberger more directly than any previous speaker, emphasizing the emotional turmoil that the families of victims endure in the aftermath of such tragic events.
The Goncalves family has been vocal in their opposition to the prosecutors’ decision to offer Kohberger a plea deal since the initial agreement was made. They believe that such deals hinder the pursuit of true justice and may undermine the rights of the victims and their families.
While Goncalves may not witness a firing squad execute Kohberger, he is determined to effect meaningful change within the state’s judicial system. The outcome of this endeavor remains uncertain, but the fight for justice continues to be a driving force for the families involved.
