More than a month after a group of adolescent children jumped a mother and her two children, Chicago prosecutors have charged seven minors involved. Corshawnda Hatter, her son, and daughter were walking home after pick-up at Orville Bright Elementary School on Nov. 17. All of a sudden, a large group of kids surrounded the family and taunted, pushed, dragged, punched, and stomped on Hatter and her son. Someone on the scene recorded the beating, leaving the local community outraged after the footage surfaced online and went viral.

Seven Kids Arrested & Charged With Misdemeanors In Chicago Family Attack

According to Fox 32 Chicago, local police confirmed on Saturday that seven juveniles were charged in connection with the beating. The children charged were between the ages of 10 and 13, including three 10-year-old boys, one 10-year-old girl, an 11-year-old girl, a 12-year-old boy, and a 13-year-old girl. Chicago police have not released the names, as the individuals are minors.

Each child was charged with misdemeanor battery, causing bodily harm. Corshawnda Hatter and her nine-year-old son were treated at a hospital for minor injuries following the attack. Though police arrested seven kids, they’ve since released them from custody. Additionally, they’ve reportedly been referred to counseling services. However, the investigation is still active, per local police. It’s unclear if the parents of the minors will face any charges.

Mom Said She Warned School About Bullying

After the attack, Corshawnda Hatter told local news that she had warned Orville Bright Elementary School for two years about her son being bullied. Nothing was done, she said. Hatter alleged that school officials would see her coming and leave, or tell security to tell her they weren’t present.

During the attack, Corshawnda said she felt helpless as her son screamed her name, asking for help. “I couldn’t get up myself. I couldn’t do nothing,” Hatter said. The viral footage shows that she did not attempt to fight or hit any of the minors back, instead she attempted to shield her kids as best she could and distance herself, but the minors were relentless with verbal taunting that ended with Corshawnda and son being beaten from a gate to grass and sidewalk, near a road.

Hatter told CBS that she planned to get her kids therapy and transferring them to another school. It’s unclear if she followed through on either. At the time, she did mention that she wanted justice. Adding, “I want the school to be responsible, the parents and the kids that were doing all that mess.”

Social Media Reacts To The Charges

In The Shade Room’s comment section, over 6,500 roommates weighed in on the charges and the shocking incident of kids putting hands and feet on a 33-year-old mom and her son and daughter. While some applauded prosecutors for taking the case seriously, others are calling for parents to also face consequences.

@msblingmiami wrote, “What they did to that mother was heartbreaking. To add insult to injury she has sickle cell. What’s even worse was the lack of accountability from the parents. Being a good student has nothing to do with bad moral and even worse behavior. Hold them all accountable!!”

@lexijonesmua commented, “Idc idc! Kiddy jail! At least 3 days each! Because I wouldn’t be surprised if they turned around and do it again they learned that from somewhere!”

“Hold those parents accountable too,” @m.dianee_ said.

“Idc how young these children are, accountability!!! Get the parents while they at it too,” @dearkim_ added.

@empresseebee wrote, “Sadly, this needed to happen.”

@nharifitzgerald said, “Counseling? That’s not enough.”

“I don’t care if they’re kids — every action has consequences.
I can’t accept that,” @zawadi_kashara commented.

When the story first went viral in November, it also caught the attention of Chicago-raised celebs, such as Dreezy and Lil Zay Osama. Jaleel Anthony, founder of Bosses University, told the press at the time that his organization was in contact with Corshawnda Hatter to provide donated items, from clothing to toys.
