An outrageous incident unfolded at a Chipotle restaurant when a customer violently retaliated against an employee by smashing a burrito bowl in her face. This shocking act of aggression occurred after the customer was denied a refund for her Uber Eats order. Remarkably, the entire food fight was partially captured on video, showcasing the dramatic and chaotic scene that ensued.
The video begins with the visibly upset customer standing behind the counter of the Chipotle location in Washington, D.C., defiantly making her own meal while the astonished staff looks on in disbelief. The footage captures the chaotic atmosphere, illustrating how the situation rapidly escalated as the customer took matters into her own hands, disregarding any attempts by the employees to intervene.
Initially, some of the Chipotle workers made attempts to stop the customer from helping herself to the food, but their efforts were ineffective. Their attempts to maintain order and adhere to the restaurant’s policies were quickly overshadowed by the customer’s insistence on serving herself, leading to a tense standoff between her and the staff.
The altercation escalated when one of the employees, clearly frustrated, intervened by attempting to take the bowl away from the customer. In a shocking move, the customer retaliated by slamming the burrito bowl into the employee’s face, causing food to scatter everywhere. This unexpected turn of events left both the staff and other patrons in stunned silence, highlighting the extreme lengths to which the customer was willing to go.
The employee involved in this shocking incident, Roberto Hernandez, later shared his experience with WUSA9 News. He recounted that the customer stormed into the restaurant last week, demanding a refund after claiming that her Uber Eats order was incorrect. Hernandez detailed the escalation of events, shedding light on the frustrations faced by restaurant staff when dealing with irate customers.
Hernandez explained that he tried to reason with the irate customer, emphasizing that she needed to seek a refund from Uber Eats directly, rather than taking her frustrations out on the restaurant staff. However, his attempts at calm dialogue fell on deaf ears, as the customer remained unresponsive and increasingly agitated, leading to the subsequent chaotic events.
As tensions escalated, the customer took the drastic step of going behind the counter to prepare her own burrito bowl, which ignited further confrontation with the restaurant staff. Hernandez expressed that the experience was traumatizing for him, as the chaos unfolded. Meanwhile, the customer stated in an interview that she felt justified in her actions to a degree, claiming, “I’m not saying what I did was right but I’m not saying what I did was wrong,” which highlights the complexities of customer service encounters.
In response to the incident, Chipotle issued an official statement to WUSA9, indicating that the company is collaborating with local law enforcement to ensure that justice is served regarding this violent confrontation. They expressed their commitment to the safety and well-being of both their employees and customers in light of this unfortunate event.
TMZ obtained a copy of the police report filed by Hernandez, which detailed the incident that took place on December 21. According to the report, police responded to a call about an assault at the Chipotle location, highlighting the seriousness of the situation as law enforcement began their investigation into the chaotic events that transpired.
Hernandez reported to the police that the customer threw the burrito bowl at him after he attempted to retrieve it. Following this, she exited the store with a second bowl filled with food, adding further complications to the already chaotic situation. This act of defiance only exacerbated the tension and drew more attention to the incident.
The police report outlined two offenses: simple assault and theft, which were related to the two burrito bowls valued at a total of $40. Investigators are currently looking into the matter, and no arrests have been made yet regarding the disruptive customer, as the authorities continue to gather evidence and witness statements.
