Exploring the Origins of Boombayah in K-Pop Culture
The origin of “Boombayah” can be traced back to the iconic song by the South Korean girl group Blackpink. Released on August 8, 2016, this track marked a significant milestone as it became the first K-pop debut music video to surpass 1 billion views on YouTube, showcasing the group’s immense popularity and influence. Interestingly, the term was originally intended to be “Oppayah,” but the group decided to change it after Jisoo pointed out that “Oppa” was overused in their lyrics.
