Oklahoma Secretary of State What Happened When Benjamin Lepak Was Arrested for Public Intoxication?
Published
The Oklahoma Secretary of State, Benjamin Lepak, found himself in a compromising situation after being accused of public intoxication while at a McDonald’s. This unexpected incident was thoroughly recorded on police body cameras.
Newly released footage reveals the moment officers approached Lepak outside the fast-food restaurant while he was holding a bag of food. Police were alerted by a 911 call reporting that he appeared to be heavily intoxicated.
Lepak insisted to the officers that he merely wanted to enjoy his meal, but they remained skeptical. They pressed him with a series of questions about how he arrived at the Edmond McDonald’s and whether he had been drinking prior to his visit.
The police appeared unconvinced by his explanations.
Ultimately, Lepak was handcuffed and taken into custody on charges of public intoxication.
One officer informed Lepak that he was fortunate not to be facing a DUI charge.
In 2021, Lepak faced charges for actual physical control of a vehicle while intoxicated and for transporting an open container of beer. These charges were classified as misdemeanors based on local reports.
He eventually pleaded guilty to those charges, resulting in a sentence that included probation and community service.
Public service is a public trust.
Ben Lepak has serious questions to answer, and Oklahomans deserve the facts. My office will work with the City of Edmond to review the available body-camera footage, determine exactly what happened, and demand that the footage be immediately… pic.twitter.com/dvqcyegxq6 @gentnerdrummond
Attorney General Gentner Drummond issued a stern statement regarding the McDonald’s incident, asserting that Lepak should be removed from his position.
We have reached out to Lepak’s office for comments, but have yet to receive a response.
