Simon Kinberg’s name is recognizable to fans of the X-Guys films—his function directorial debut was 2019’s X-Guys: Dark Phoenix, but he’s extended been a producer and occasionally writer on the franchise, beginning with 2006’s X-Guys: The Final Stand suitable up via this summer’s Deadpool & Wolverine. The Hollywood Reporter writes that Kinberg is “in talks” to generate a Star Trek film that Paramount currently has in the functions, and that is not all “if all goes nicely, the door would open to him taking active inventive roles on the rest of the storied franchise’s film side,” according to the trade. The film in query is one particular we currently knew about: it is the Starfleet origin story set extended just before J.J. Abrams’ 2009 film, directed by Toby Haynes (Star Wars series Andor) and written by Seth Grahame-Smith. Abrams is also one particular of the producers, and THR notes that the studio is ambitiously hoping for a 2025 release.
This news of Kinberg’s involvement comes as Paramount is potentially undergoing a sale soon—but you have to assume no matter who ends up owning the studio will want to lean into one particular of its most useful properties.
