In San Francisco, Anthropic’s Chief Financial Officer, Krishna Rao, has been engaging in discussions with potential investors ahead of the company’s highly anticipated IPO prospectus release.
Notably, this prospectus is expected to explicitly address public concerns regarding the activities of AI companies, as reported by CNBC.
According to CNBC, which cites unnamed sources familiar with the situation, these meetings in San Francisco highlight the growing public resistance to Anthropic’s technology and the associated data centers. This sentiment is expected to be categorized as a “key risk factor” in the prospectus.
In essence, the crucial formal document that investors rely on before committing to Anthropic will reportedly acknowledge widespread public dissent. This dissent is more than mere complaints; it encompasses a political movement, with candidates from various parties increasingly voicing opposition to AI in their campaigns. Depending on the depth of the prospectus, it may need to address serious protests against AI and data centers, including incidents involving gunfire and at least one molotov cocktail.
In contrast, SpaceX’s IPO earlier this year did not emphasize public sentiment, even though AI was highlighted as a primary driver of future revenue in its prospectus. That document mentioned reliance on natural gas under regulatory considerations, without addressing public concerns regarding pollution. It also noted that Grok’s boldness and capacity to generate “potential nonconsensual or exploitative imagery” could lead to “reputational damage” or backlash from users and advertisers. it did not appear to acknowledge philosophical opposition to AI.
