I don’t forget when Twitter was particularly hesitant to add as well quite a few possibilities to the bottom bar in the app, and even flip-flopped on irrespective of whether to give “Moments” its personal rapid hyperlink mainly because it was potentially as well cluttered.
Evidently, X is not of the very same thoughts, mainly because it is now experimenting with a further bottom bar shortcut, this time for Communities.
As you can see in this screenshot, posted by X News Daily, Communities could quickly get premium placement, alongside its Grok chatbot shortcut, which it added to the nav bar late final year.
That would take X’s access bar to six icons, up from the preferred 4 beneath prior Twitter management.
I’m not certain what the UI science is on what’s as well quite a few in this respect, and what influence that could have on usage. But once again, Twitter had attempted a couple of distinct icons more than time, but generally reverted back to the 4 tab limit.
But X, which is keen to expand the way that persons use the app, is of course additional focused on maximizing Communities than worrying about such impacts. And offered the development stats that X has shared, it does appear like Communities could drive additional engagement.
X reported back in March that time spent on Communities has grown 600% in the previous year, even though there are now more than 350,000 communities on X, and about 650,000 neighborhood posts made day-to-day.
Which appears surprising, but clearly, there is demand for additional enclosed chats and discussion groups inside the broader X practical experience.
Which has also observed X roll out a bunch of updates for Communities, such as updated recommendations for Communities that you may be interested in, enhanced in-group search, and highlights from new Communities that are trending inside the “Communities” tab.

And now, potentially, a committed, persistent access tab as properly, even though X Premium subscribers could also have added the Communities icon through their custom navigation possibilities at a single stage as well (it is not clear if this is nevertheless an choice for paying customers).
But that wouldn’t have offered you additional tabs, just the capacity to transform the 5 displayed.
Will that get additional persons checking into Communities additional typically?
Properly, perhaps, and once again, offered the usage stats reported by X, there does appear to be sufficient interest to justify it.
Although it would be exciting to know additional about why prior platform management was so resistant to adding in additional tabs along the bottom nav bar.
I will send Jack a DM.
