Facebook is rolling out new ways to customize your Feed.
The social network this week introduced the option to see more or less of its recommendations, as well as content from people and communities you follow.
Appearing “periodically” in users’ Feeds, folks will soon be able to tap the three-dot menu in the upper right corner of a post or Reel to “Show more” or “Show less”—temporarily increasing or decreasing its ranking score, respectively.
“By offering more ways to incorporate direct feedback into Feed ranking, we’re making our artificial intelligence systems smarter and more responsive,” according to a Facebook announcement(Opens in a new window).
It’s unclear how long the “temporary” change will last. If, for instance, less is more, you can always hide individual posts, snooze someone, or unfollow them altogether. There’s no current alternative to see more of certain content (except seeking it out yourself).

“We’re continuing to explore ways to help you customize how much content you see in Feed from the friends and family, Groups, Pages, and public figures you’re connected to,” the company said. Additional tools like Favorites, snooze, and reconnect can be found in Feed Preferences.
Last year, Facebook pulled back the curtain(Opens in a new window) on its News Feed technology, explaining how the machine learning ranking system works and the challenges of building a platform that can personalize content for more than 2 billion people. Predictions, it explained, are based on a variety of factors, including what and whom you’ve followed, liked, or engaged with recently.
