Marjorie Taylor Greene blamed Donald Trump for the Republican Party’s Election Night losses, accusing GOP lawmakers of following him too closely. Greene described Trump as a “cult leader” dragging Republicans down with him, while Van Jones also invoked a cult comparison.

Jacob spoke with Greene on Tuesday night amid a wave of Democratic victories. Asked who was responsible for the Republicans’ losses, Greene directly blamed Trump.

“It’s Donald Trump’s fault,” Greene said. She argued that Trump told Americans to vote as if he were on the ballot, and that voters instead cast ballots for Democrats.

Greene criticized Republicans for standing behind Trump and “cheerleading, clapping like baby seals” instead of addressing issues she said mattered to Americans: health insurance, rising costs and foreign wars.

Van Jones also made a cult comparison, likening the GOP’s Election Night losses to the Jonestown massacre.

“If you join a cult, at some point the cult leader takes you to Jonestown and tries to get you to drink the Kool-Aid,” Jones said. “This is Jonestown for the Republican Party.”

Jones said Republicans had “drank the Kool-Aid” by refusing to challenge Trump and were now facing a price at the ballot box.

Greene said Republicans should stop prioritizing Trump’s approval and invitations to Mar-a-Lago, and instead deliver on the promises they made to voters.

The GOP’s loyalty to Trump has become a point of contention after the midterm election results, according to Greene’s remarks.
