PlayStation enthusiasts in Japan need to verify their active gaming status to be eligible for the PS5 Pro. Sony Japan has established specific criteria for buyers. First, they must own a Sony account registered in Japan, which is required for the purchase of the PS5 Pro. they need to be logged into their account and have accumulated a minimum of 60 hours of gameplay on either a PS5 or a PS4, or a combination of both, within the period from September 27, 2024, to September 27, 2026.
Only those who meet these conditions can apply for the chance to buy the console starting October 7. Approved applicants will have the opportunity to purchase a unit from October 26 to November 2. If the number of applications exceeds the available stock, Sony will use a lottery system to allocate units. This approach aims to deter scalpers from purchasing units for resale and to ensure that foreign visitors do not buy up the stock while in Japan.
In the United States, the PS5 Pro has been largely unavailable at major retailers due to ongoing stock shortages. Like many companies in the tech sector, Sony is facing supply chain issues with components, which it anticipates will persist into early 2027. Despite a $150 increase in the PS5 Pro’s price, demand remains strong, especially following the announcement of GTA VI. This game is optimized for the PS5 Pro, allowing it to leverage the console’s superior hardware for enhanced performance and graphics.
