At the recent Meta Connect conference in Menlo Park, Meta unveiled an exciting array of new features powered by artificial intelligence. Key announcements included enhanced data security measures for Muse agents and new collaborations aimed at expanding the capabilities of agentic AI. The event also highlighted the introduction of new models of AI glasses and a significantly lighter VR headset that weighs five times less than the existing Meta Quest headset.
The spotlight at Meta Connect 2026 was on Muse, Meta’s personal AI agent. CEO Mark Zuckerberg emphasized that Muse represents a significant shift in the company’s strategy from prioritizing the metaverse to focusing on AI technology.
During his keynote, Zuckerberg shared that Meta initially believed the metaverse would lead innovation, followed by advancements in AI superintelligence. the rapid progress in AI technologies prompted a strategic pivot, placing AI functionality at the forefront.
Muse serves as the core platform for this transition. Zuckerberg detailed key features of Muse, such as enhanced data security through the Meta Secure VM, a private data processing system that ensures even Meta cannot access user data.
Meta’s Chief AI Officer, Alexandr Wang, elaborated on the evolution of Muse, including the introduction of email addresses for Muse agents to enhance their operational capabilities. He also announced partnerships with major retailers like Walmart, BestBuy, Gap, Sephora, Expedia, Instacart, and Wayfair, which will enable Muse to seamlessly connect with their platforms.
Zuckerberg mentioned that Muse users will soon have the ability to customize their agent’s voice. Muse is now available in Canada alongside its existing availability in the U.S.
Zuckerberg introduced the upcoming Muse Charm, a device reminiscent of a Tamagotchi, designed to provide users with constant access to their Muse agent beyond just AI glasses.
This leads us to the next major highlight: the AI glasses showcased during the event.
Zuckerberg’s presentation on AI glasses prominently addressed privacy issues, responding to growing concerns about unauthorized recording capabilities and the potential for Meta employees to access captured content.
Zuckerberg announced that Meta is implementing private processing for Meta Glasses, which will enhance user protection by ensuring that, similar to Muse, no Meta staff can access user information through the device.
He also highlighted the improved audio features of the AI glasses, which now include better support for users with hearing impairments.
Moreover, Meta introduced audio-only AI glasses that connect to Meta AI without the concerns associated with camera recording.
Zuckerberg revealed the upcoming Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 device, which boasts a more compact design and extended battery life.
Zuckerberg mentioned that the Gen 3 glasses will feature new capture modes, along with Dolby Atmos spatial audio capture, enhancing the audio quality of recorded scenes.
He also previewed additional styles of AI glasses, including Aviator and Zena designs, and an updated Adventurer model, which will be priced at $249.
Meta announced an exciting collaboration with K-Pop sensation Lisa, featuring unique glasses inspired by the frames launched with Kylie Jenner. The Lisa glasses will come with charms inspired by her beloved pets.
Zuckerberg then shifted focus to the highly sought-after Meta Display glasses, which have been sold out for several months. He announced that Meta is working to meet demand and expand availability into more regions.
Finally, Zuckerberg and Reality Labs lead Andrew Bosworth discussed the next-generation VR glasses, which are five times lighter than the current Meta Quest 3 headset.
This weight reduction is attributed to Meta’s shift to a tethered model, where the computing and battery components are housed in a separate pack.
Meta explained: “The VR Glasses will handle the sensors and display, while the puck, connected by an optical tether, will manage compute, battery, and storage, and conveniently clips to your pocket or bag. ”Meta’s next-generation VR device will integrate users’ Muse AI bot, making it easier to manage the various aspects through conversational prompts. It will also feature a variety of experiences designed to showcase the capabilities of Meta’s advancing VR technologies.
These innovations remain aligned with the company’s roadmap, despite the recent focus on AI.
Zuckerberg described the new VR device as a comprehensive platform that combines a cinema experience, virtual computing, and gaming into one device, providing a glimpse into the future of digital interaction.
Meta VR glasses will be priced at $1299 and are expected to ship in Spring.
