Porsha Williams Discloses Discovery of 21 Uterine Fibroids
At 45, the ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ star revealed that the alarming discovery occurred in May, as she contemplated adding another child to her family. Accompanying a friend for an egg freezing consultation, Williams opted to consult her fertility doctor. After expressing her symptoms of prolonged periods, migraines, severe fatigue, and mood fluctuations, doctors identified 21 uterine fibroids, one of which she described as being approximately the size of a cantaloupe.
Porsha Williams Shares the Emotional Impact of Her Health Crisis
Williams explained that the fibroids had grown to a size that compromised her birth canal and applied pressure on her bladder. This led to her undergoing an emergency partial hysterectomy. She has been managing fibroids since her late 20s and previously disclosed that complications from one led to a miscarriage when she was four months along.
Currently, Williams is candidly discussing the emotional ramifications of her ordeal, particularly the sorrow she experienced after losing the opportunity to carry another child. In an interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, Porsha highlighted the stigma surrounding conversations about her hysterectomy. By sharing her journey, she aims to empower women, especially Black women, to pay attention to their bodies, advocate for their health, and seek medical assistance when something feels off.

Porsha is committed to keeping the dialogue ongoing! The reality star took to The Shade Room’s Instagram comment section to express:
“Thank you so much… for sharing my story and helping spread awareness about fibroids! It’s essential for us as women to advocate for ourselves, prioritize preventative care and early detection, and understand every treatment option available, especially those that might help avoid a hysterectomy when possible. If surgery is necessary, proper aftercare is equally important. I hope my story encourages more women to listen to their bodies, ask questions, and take charge of their health. ❤️ Stop diagnosing yourself and get informed! Care for yourself first.”
