Snapchat added 10 million more daily global active users in the second quarter, while its parent company Snap Inc. reported an increase in year-over-year advertising revenue, preparing for the launch of its augmented reality glasses.

Snap’s Q2 performance indicates steady advancements for the platform, although there are troubling signs, especially regarding user growth.

The app experienced a decline in active users across both the U.S. and European markets last quarter, raising concerns about its future trajectory. Snapchat’s daily active users in the U.S. remained unchanged, and its European user base showed minimal growth quarter over quarter in Q2.

As illustrated in the accompanying graphs, Snapchat regained one million daily active users in Europe, although the majority of its growth is still attributed to the “Rest of World” segment, particularly with strong expansion in India.

This represents a positive sign for future growth potential. the slowdown in its primary advertising markets remains a significant concern regarding how Snap Inc. generates revenue.

Snapchat Q2 2026

These charts demonstrate that Snapchat earns significantly more revenue per user in the U.S. and EU markets. it was reported in June that in India, “advertisers on the platform [grew] have increased tenfold over the past two years.”

Despite this, the stagnation of Snapchat’s growth in its key revenue-generating markets raises concerns, making the platform increasingly dependent on expanding its advertising opportunities and exploring new avenues to sustain revenue growth.

Snapchat Q2 2026

Snap generated approximately $1.6 billion in revenue during the second quarter, reflecting a 4% increase from Q1 and a 19% increase year-over-year.

In a prepared statement, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel noted that advertising revenue increased by 9% year-over-year in Q2, while other revenue streams, including Snapchat+ subscriptions, have surged by 85% year-over-year, reaching $316 million.

A key contributor to this revenue growth has been the introduction of the Lens+ subscription that offers early access to the latest AR and AI features, along with the expanded Memories storage subscription service that has also contributed to additional revenue.

While this growth is noteworthy, it is important to highlight that less than 3% of Snapchat’s monthly active users are paying subscribers, indicating that, at this point, subscription-based social media cannot currently replace ad revenue.

Regarding usage trends, Spiegel mentioned that the number of users posting on Snapchat’s TikTok-like Spotlight feature surged by over 115% year-over-year, while daily active viewers of Spotlight increased by more than 20%.

This growth has provided Snap with an additional engagement opportunity, showcasing a notable success for the platform as it mimics a feature from another service. Instagram famously adopted Snapchat’s Stories concept in 2016, which significantly hindered Snapchat’s growth momentum. Observing Snap utilize a similar strategy in reverse is an intriguing development.

Spiegel also noted that the U.S. user base aged over 35 is steadily increasing, which could enhance advertising opportunities. Meanwhile, the total monthly active user count continues to rise, approaching the one billion mark.

Spiegel mentioned that the company is focused on enhancing its monetization framework and refining its approach to advertising partners, which has yielded consistent results.

According to Spiegel: “Our objective now is to convert our scale into sustainable growth and improved cash generation, while demonstrating the long-term value of our investment in SPECS. We are approaching this work with a more targeted, AI-enhanced operational model. AI is assisting us in accelerating service improvements, increasing engagement, and enhancing results for advertisers. This supports revenue growth, margin expansion, and free cash flow.”

However, Specs continues to pose a significant risk for Snap.

Snap officially commenced pre-orders for Specs in June, which garnered a tepid reaction. This was largely due to a photo that highlighted the discomfort caused by Snap’s hefty digital glasses on users’ ears.

Snapchat Specs Evan Spiegel

Snap’s AR and now AI glasses have long been contentious, especially as they compete against better-resourced rivals like Meta and Apple. The official launch of Specs only highlighted these concerns, and the initial reception suggests that Snap’s Specs, priced at $2,195 for pre-order, may not significantly boost revenue for the company.

However, the project is increasing costs for the company.

Snapchat Q2 2026

Spiegel stated that Snap will strive to manage its investment in Specs gradually to mitigate potential losses. without substantial growth in its advertising business, this remains a pivotal concern for the app. If Specs fails to find a significant market fit, it could lead to major challenges.

Ultimately, the anticipated launch of Snap’s fully functional digital glasses could represent a crucial turning point for the business. it may not unfold in the manner Snap envisions.
