What Led to Vasana Montgomery’s Dismissal from Love Island USA?
Vasana was removed from the season 8 lineup of Love Island USA after videos surfaced showing her using a racial slur, as reported by TMZ and Deadline. A representative from Peacock confirmed to Deadline that the videos were privately owned and had not been shared before Vasana’s casting announcement.
Fans of Love Island may recall that Vasana is not the first contestant to be removed from this popular show. Last year, shortly after the premiere of season 7 in June 2025, Yulissa Escobar was also ousted after a video surfaced of her repeatedly using a racial slur.
“First, I want to apologize for using a word I had no right to use,” Yulissa shared on Instagram at the time. “Podcast clips from years ago have recently resurfaced, and I want to address them directly. In those clips, I used a word I should never have used, a racial slur. I used it without understanding the weight, history, or pain associated with it. I did not intend to be offensive or harmful, but I recognize that intention does not excuse the impact. The impact of that word is real, tied to generations of trauma, and it is not mine to use.”
In a similar situation, season 7 participant Cierra Ortega was forced to leave the show after it was revealed that she had used an anti-Asian slur in the past. Cierra later issued a statement taking responsibility for her actions.
“I want to first address not just those I have hurt or deeply offended, but importantly, the entire Asian community,” Cierra expressed in a video at the time. “I am truly sorry. I was unaware that this word carried such pain and harm, along with its historical significance, or I never would have used it. I had no malicious intent when using it. that is no excuse, as intent does not justify ignorance.”
