Hyundai has initiated a recall for thousands of both standard and hybrid vehicles following the discovery of a critical software issue by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The safety recall report issued on May 19 revealed that a malfunction in the software controlling the vehicles’ front cameras might unintentionally trigger the forward collision-avoidance system. This means that the vehicle could abruptly brake too early or without any valid reason, which poses a risk of serious accidents. The report noted 376 instances of unexpected braking occurring between October 2024 and April 2026.
This software glitch affects over 421,000 vehicles produced by Hyundai since 2024. owners of newly purchased Hyundai vehicles should verify if their car is impacted by this recall.

The recall affects the 2025-2026 Hyundai Santa Cruz and Tucson models, encompassing both standard gasoline and hybrid variants. This includes the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid as well as the Plug-In Hybrid versions.

Owners of affected vehicles will receive notifications via mail from the NHTSA by July 17. If you are unsure whether your vehicle falls under this recall, you can check the NHTSA recall database by entering your vehicle’s identification number (VIN) or license plate.
