World’s First 6K Gaming Monitor by Samsung

Rather than gradually introducing products throughout the year, Samsung is unveiling the majority of its new monitors for 2026 in a single launch. After previewing these models late last year prior to CES, the company is now releasing six displays. These range from a versatile rollable display suitable for studios and compact spaces to a comprehensive lineup tailored for gamers.

Building on the success of its previous model, Samsung has introduced an upgraded version of the Movingstyle Essential. Priced at $900, this model boasts a larger 43-inch 4K screen, expanding from the previous 32 inches. Similar to its predecessor, it comes equipped with a dedicated remote, built-in smart TV applications, Samsung’s Gaming Hub, and notably, a height-adjustable stand with wheels for easy repositioning. The Movingstyle supports a full 90-degree rotation, making it suitable for portrait-style viewing, although it does not rotate automatically like the Samsung Sero.

Having experienced it firsthand, I can confidently say that this monitor would have been perfect for college life. Its rolling stand allows the Movingstyle to function as both a primary productivity screen and a great TV for leisure time. One drawback is the absence of a built-in antenna or cable tuner, which classifies it strictly as a monitor rather than a TV. in today’s world of fast Wi-Fi and streaming services, this is a relatively minor issue. I would suggest that Samsung consider adding a mounting system to accommodate gaming consoles, as currently, connecting devices like a Nintendo Switch or PlayStation isn’t straightforward without compromising its portability.

For users seeking a more conventional monitor suitable for content creation, general productivity, and gaming, Samsung offers the 40-inch ViewFinity S8 at $1,400. This monitor features a 5K panel with a 144Hz refresh rate and a comforting 1000R curvature, striking a balance between size, resolution, and speed. One of the S8’s standout attributes is its extensive connectivity options, including two built-in speakers, a LAN port, a Thunderbolt 5 port capable of delivering up to 140 watts of power, and a built-in KVM switch for seamless integration with multiple PCs. Samsung has incorporated picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture functionalities, allowing users to view content from two systems simultaneously.

Samsung’s latest range of dedicated gaming monitors is particularly impressive. The flagship model is the $1,600 32-inch Odyssey G8 (G80HS), touted as the world’s first 6K gaming monitor. It features an advanced dual-mode IPS panel that offers a choice between 165Hz at 6K and 330Hz at 3K. This is significant because many dual-mode monitors often compromise on resolution to achieve higher refresh rates, dropping to 1080p or even 720p. For those seeking similar capabilities at a more accessible price, the 27-inch Odyssey G8 (G80HF) is available for $1,000, featuring a 5K IPS panel with dual-mode performance ranging from 180Hz at 5K to 360Hz at QHD.

The standout model for me was the Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SH), an updated version of last year’s OLED G8 featuring a new QD-OLED Penta Tandem panel. It delivers an impressive refresh rate of up to 240Hz, supports HDR10+, and has earned VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification. Experiencing it while playing Horizon Forbidden West was breathtaking; the colors were vibrant, and the dynamic range showcased the monitor’s capabilities beautifully. This model is available in both 27-inch ($1,100) and 32-inch ($1,300) variants.

Lastly, the 32-inch Odyssey OLED G7 ($1,100) combines dual-mode functionalities with an OLED display, offering 4K resolution at 165Hz or 1080p at 330Hz. While it may not have all the advanced features of the OLED G8, it still boasts a rapid 0.03ms response time, VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification, and Pantone Validated color accuracy, making it suitable for photo and video editing as well.

While these monitors are not budget options, with the most affordable being the $900 Movingstyle Essential and the $1,000 27-inch Odyssey G7 5K, they represent a great value for anyone looking to enhance their home office, living room entertainment, or gaming setup.
