Authorities report that Wilson, a 20-year-old from Kenner, died after being punched in the chest with boxing gloves during an unsanctioned pledging ritual for the Omega Psi Phi fraternity. Isaiah Smith, Kyle Thurman, Caleb McCray, Winston Sanders, and Jadyn Landrum previously pleaded not guilty to charges related to this case earlier this year. Following Wilson’s death, Southern University expelled the fraternity, and the trial is now scheduled for August 19.
