The popular reality TV star from “Big Brother,” Memphis Garrett, has recently found himself in serious legal trouble. He is facing arrest due to allegedly owing the state of Florida a staggering sum exceeding ,000 in state taxes. This situation has raised eyebrows among fans and followers, as it highlights significant financial issues that can arise for individuals in the public eye.
According to confirmations from the Broward Sheriff’s Office to TMZ, Memphis was apprehended on Thursday. This arrest stemmed from a warrant issued by the Florida Department of Revenue. Reports indicate that Memphis remains in custody since he has failed to meet the ,000 bond requirement, which adds to the complexity of his legal situation.
Documents obtained by TMZ reveal that Memphis, whose real name is Robert Garrett, is facing serious allegations, including a charge for second-degree felony theft of state funds. This indicates the gravity of the situation he is in, as such charges can lead to severe legal consequences, including imprisonment and hefty fines.
The state of Florida is accusing the reality star, now a restaurateur, of having collected a significant amount of sales taxes totaling $55,366.77 from his businesses between November 2022 and October 2024. The businesses involved include his LLC Poke House Lauderdale, operating under the names The Poke House and No Man’s Land Miami LLC, which have allegedly failed to remit these taxes to the state, leading to this serious legal predicament.
The state is firmly demanding repayment of the owed taxes, indicating a serious pursuit of legal action to recover the funds. Despite the urgency of this matter, attempts to reach out to Memphis’ team have so far yielded no response, leaving many to speculate about the next steps he plans to take regarding this challenging situation.
This year has proven to be particularly difficult for Memphis Garrett as TMZ reported on his recent personal challenges. In March 2024, he and his fellow “Big Brother” alum, Christmas Abbott, announced their separation, marking the end of their relationship and adding emotional strain to an already tumultuous time in his life.
The divorce proceedings between Memphis and Christmas turned adversarial, with Christmas seeking a restraining order amidst allegations of domestic violence. Fortunately, she later decided to withdraw the request in May 2024, though the entire ordeal highlights the personal struggles Memphis has been facing during this challenging phase of his life.
Despite these legal and personal challenges, Memphis has remained active in his various business ventures. However, this busyness may have contributed to his inability to settle the state taxes, raising questions about his financial management and priorities during such tumultuous times.
