Moises Could Convicted for Kidnapping and Human Trafficking: A Disturbing Case of Domestic Abuse Unfolded
WARNING: Extremely Disturbing Content
A man from Louisville has been found guilty of committing heinous acts against his girlfriend and the mother of his child. This case took a dark turn when the man claimed that she was a willing participant in these horrifying events, following a dramatic and harrowing rescue that was documented on police body-cam footage. The trauma experienced by the victim illustrates the alarming nature of domestic violence and human trafficking that can occur within personal relationships.
On Thursday, Moises Could was convicted on all five counts against him. His arrest occurred in August 2023, leading to charges of human trafficking, kidnapping, and harassment involving physical contact. According to WDRB, the jury has recommended a lengthy prison sentence of 35 years, with his official sentencing scheduled for July 2.
Could faced allegations of using a machete to brutally cut off the hair of Jonna Wilson, who identified herself as the victim while speaking to local media outlets. Wilson described her relationship with Could, noting that she is his estranged girlfriend and the mother of one of his children. He is also accused of chaining her by the neck to the floor and forcing her into sexual acts with other men for financial gain, illustrating the extreme manipulation and control he exerted over her.

Critical Police Testimony in a Shocking Case of Abuse
During the trial, Detective Brittany O’Neil provided crucial testimony, revealing that Could had claimed Wilson “did it [to] herself.” He alleged that they had an agreement where she would chain herself up if she failed to attend rehabilitation. Additionally, he suggested that infidelity played a role in what he referred to as her choice, displaying a disturbing manipulation of the situation.
O’Neil also expressed skepticism regarding Could’s claims, stating that it “did not look like it was something she did to herself,” when questioned about the credibility of his assertions regarding the chains. This highlighted the inconsistencies in his narrative and raised further doubts about the victim’s supposed complicity.
While O’Neil testified that Wilson was coerced into sexual acts with other men for financial gain, the defense claimed these encounters were consensual. This contradiction in testimonies painted a complex picture of the victim’s circumstances, revealing the manipulative control Could maintained over her life.
Regarding the violent act of cutting off her hair, O’Neil recounted that Could claimed it was a punishment for Wilson “losing a bet” in a game of checkers. However, he later changed his story, asserting that she had asked him to do it after he refused to help her dye it, further illustrating his erratic and abusive behavior.

The Heroic Rescue of a Chained Victim
The dramatic rescue of a woman who was chained by her neck to the ground in a Park Hill home in Louisville, Kentucky captured the public’s attention and made headlines in August 2023. The harrowing circumstances surrounding her captivity highlighted the severe issue of domestic abuse and trafficking.
The police body-cam footage revealed officers responding to a distressed call from neighbors who heard the woman’s desperate cries for help. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers saw the victim sobbing from a broken second-story window, desperately seeking assistance. When attempting to enter through the main floor, they discovered that all doors and windows were barricaded, indicating the extreme measures taken by Could to isolate her.
With the assistance of nearby residents, the police officers were able to find a ladder, allowing them to ascend to the second floor and crawl through the shattered window. Upon entering, they were immediately confronted by the terrified victim, who had a heavy chain, typically used for dogs, tightly wrapped around her neck, secured with a padlock. The sight was a horrifying testament to the control Could had exerted over her life.

The victim informed the officers that she did not know where the keys to the padlock were but suspected that the suspect, Could, likely had them. “I don’t know; he has it on his keys,” the victim cried. “I tried scissors, I tried everything.” Her distress highlighted the desperation of her situation and the lengths she had gone to try to free herself.
The officers followed the heavy chain down to the floor, where they discovered it was bolted into the floorboards. Using a hatchet, one officer managed to break the chain free from its anchor point, showcasing their determination to rescue her from this horrific situation.
“Thank you so much,” the victim expressed gratefully. Once outside, emergency medical services (EMS) and local firefighters used bolt cutters to remove the chain from around her neck, finally liberating her from her captor’s grip.
In the days leading up to her being chained, Could had reportedly abused the mother of his child, as stated in the arrest report. The victim recounted that just two days before her rescue, she and Could had a heated argument that escalated into a traumatic incident of violence.
She explained that Could forcibly dragged her into the bathroom, where he pinned her down on the floor and used a machete to cut off large clumps of her hair. The victim accused him of further physical abuse, which law enforcement characterized as Could allegedly having “slapped [her] around before [she] was able to leave,” illustrating the severe physical and emotional trauma inflicted upon her.

Just two days later, on August 16, she returned to Could’s residence to gather some of her belongings. However, Could allegedly locked all the doors with a bolt that only he possessed the key to, according to the arrest report.
“[He then] forced the victim to remove some of her clothing, saying, ‘You’re gonna get it tonight,’ and ‘I told you the next time you leave and don’t come home, I’d kill you,’ while inflicting pain by slapping her,” police reported, emphasizing the psychological and physical torment she endured.
The report also alleges that Could compelled the victim upstairs, where he wrapped a chain around her neck and bolted it to the floor. This horrifying act of violence was clearly intended to assert his control over her life and ensure her submission.
The suspect reportedly threatened to kill the victim and confiscated her phone. Afterward, he left the residence, leaving her trapped and vulnerable. The victim managed to break out a second-story window and screamed for help, showing her desperation for rescue.
“As soon as he locked that lock, I knew it was over,” Wilson later informed WDRB, sharing her trauma. She recounted that “every door was screwed shut.” She added, “The fire department couldn’t even knock down the doors. That’s how badly they were screwed. Every window he bolted, every exit — there was no exit in the house.” This statement underscores the extreme lengths Could went to in order to imprison and control her.
“I just want to see him go to jail,” she expressed, highlighting her desire for justice not only for herself but for her daughter as well. “I just want my daughter to be okay,” a poignant reminder of the lasting impact of such traumatic experiences on families.
