Bring The Monkey to Your Church with Neon

Next week, Osgood Perkins’ The Monkey is set to enthrall audiences as it finally debuts in theaters, bringing with it a thrilling atmosphere filled with suspense and graphic intensity. Many fans are eager to catch this horror film either on the big screen or through Video on Demand (VOD) and streaming platforms. However, a unique opportunity is presented for some lucky viewers to experience this film in an unconventional setting: their church. This initiative adds an intriguing twist to the typical movie-watching experience, merging faith and entertainment in an unexpected way.

Neon is inviting congregations to register their places of worship for a special screening of The Monkey. To participate, interested religious institutions simply need to fill out a brief form that includes answering three thought-provoking questions. These questions require an explanation of why the church deserves to host the screening in 100 words or less, a reflection on whether salvation is found through faith or film, and a playful inquiry into what constitutes “the greatest sin of all.” Surprisingly, this sin is humorously defined as “using your phone in a movie theater,” which many would agree is a valid point of contention. It’s essential to note that only “authorized religious institutions” can take part in this unique event, ensuring that individuals cannot just proclaim their home as a church to gain access.

This marketing strategy may seem like a whimsical gimmick for what promises to be an incredibly entertaining film, filled with outrageous scenarios and gruesome scenes. Nevertheless, it highlights the innovative and sometimes cheeky approach Neon is taking with its promotional efforts. For instance, the film Longlegs garnered attention with its enigmatic trailers and a dedicated phone line leading to pre-recorded messages from the actor Nicolas Cage. Additionally, the studio’s other anticipated horror release for 2024, Immaculate, was promoted using negative reviews from devout Christians who were less than pleased with its perspective on religious horror. Notably, one of these reviews was even printed on a t-shirt, which is not available for purchase.

Mark your calendars, as The Monkey officially arrives in theaters this Friday. If you’re seeking a unique and memorable outing to enjoy this horror film, consider applying for a screening at your local church. It could be an excellent opportunity to gather with friends and family while engaging with a film that challenges both the genre and traditional viewing experiences.
