One factor that may be annoying about TikTok, and the way its customers strategy participatory content material, is that you simply usually find yourself listening to the identical music over and again and again as you scroll via your “For You” feed.
Tracks that catch on get re-used all through the app, which supplies completely different takes, and makes it simpler for everybody to contribute to tendencies (because it reduces the necessity for originality). However generally, listening to the identical few bars time and again does make me swipe simply that little bit sooner.
However I’m doubtless within the minority, as many of those songs go on to change into massive hits, and at this time, TikTok has printed its first ever “Songs of the Summer time” itemizing to rejoice these earworms that you simply’ve additionally had taking part in in your head at random occasions all through the day.
There’s little question some acquainted observe names on that record, and in the event that they weren’t taking part in in your head earlier than, they most likely at the moment are. Apologies.
It’s an fascinating overview of the most recent music tendencies within the app, and with TikTok turning into a essential consideration for report labels, as they work to uncover the subsequent hit, it’s additionally largely reflective of the tracks of the day, which might be feeding into radio airplay.
For those who take heed to the radio. I suppose, as of late, most individuals are most likely discovering extra new music on-line, which is why TikTok is such a strong car for artist promotion, with YouTube additionally taking part in a key function.
And on each, it is participation that basically fuels that shift. One of many key developments of the TikTok period of social media is that we’ve gone from static memes to lively tendencies, with standard tracks basically turning into templates for a type of impressed artistic expression.
As such, the bands which might be in a position to lean into these tendencies are those which might be profitable out, which can be a key observe to your personal TikTok technique, and understanding the participatory nature of the app.
TikTok’s additionally printed a world itemizing of the highest summer season hits:
Every observe has impressed hundreds of thousands of views within the app, and it’s fascinating to notice the most recent tendencies, and to think about how every triggers expanded TikTok engagement.
