Caution: This article contains spoilers for the season 4 finale of What We Do In The Shadows FX’s What We Do In The Shadows has seen season 4 come to a close. Everyone’s favorite vampires (and familiar) have faced their fair share of challenges and have grown so much over the course of thre years. After the season 4 finale, fans of the FX comedy series cannot wait to see what will happen next in season 5.
Many have already voiced their opinions on the ending, taking to Twitter to share their reactions and predictions for what is to come. There were numerous note-worthy tweets and a handful managed to stand out from the crowd.
Nadja & The Guide
The tension between Nadja and The Guide is very real. With Laszlo having been preoccupied with “Baby Colin” and his show at Nadja’s nightclub, the two have spent much time together since the club’s opening.
Nadja and Laszlo have been very open with their relationship, both having each admitted to having a steamy affair with The Baron and enjoying countless orgies so an affair between Nadja and The Guide wouldn’t necessarily be out of left field. Nadja’s transformation over the seasons, from running the Vampiric Council to owning a nightclub, has made her not only a great leader but a good friend to The Guide. Time will tell if their friendship turns into something more.
Laszlo & Colin’s Relationship
This was enough to hit even a casual WWDITS fan in the feels. Laszlo staying behind at the end of season 3 to take care of Baby Colin when everyone else went away was definitely a transformative experience for Laszlo.
To have it all end with Colin becoming fully grown and not remembering a single thing as a child is a real punch to the gut for Laszlo and for viewers who followed their journey together.
Marwa
The rage fans felt after seeing Nandor turn one of his 37 wives, Marwa into a clone of Guillermo’s boyfriend is understandable. The twist at the end of episode 9 where the two Freddies find each other in London and start a relationship was also kind of upsetting.
Marwa was becoming one of the girls after having a movie night with Nadja and The Guide earlier in the season and could have been a great recurring character but it seems like she was just thrown away at the end. Fans want justice for Marwa.
Nandor & Guillermo Switching Places
Since Nandor still has not made Guillermo a vampire as he promised, Guillermo has taken things into his own hands by paying his friend and newly created vampire, Derek, to get the job done for him.
Having Nandor and Guillermo essentially switch places as a vampire and human would be absolutely mind-blowing. The fact that he went through 51 wishes easily, saving only one begs the question, what is Nandor saving his last wish for?
“Slipping Through My Fingers”
This tweet is on the more emotional side, using ABBA’s lyrics to “Slipping Through My Fingers” that, coincidentally, is a song used in Mamma Mia!, Nadja’s favorite movie. Laszlo was visibly crushed by Baby Colin growing up and having no interest in the activities they used to do together since he basically raised him from “birth.”
It is so heartbreaking to see how close Laszlo and Colin were this season, only to have it all ripped away. Hopefully, Colin will come to remember some of the special moments that he and Laszlo shared.
Nandor & Guillermo As Vampires
The idea of Nandor and Guillermo teaming up as vampires would be so exciting to see. Guillermo has had quite the transformation from starting the series as a familiar to discovering he’s a descendant of Van Helsing.
With Guillermo’s vampire-slaying heritage plus Nandor’s… relentlessness, they could kick major butt as a duo. Hopefully, this take is a possibility for season 5, at least as long as Nandor doesn’t get jealous of Guillermo’s newfound vampire powers.
Avenge Marwa
Marwa deserved better than Nandor and deserved more than what the writers gave her. Her fate came as a surprise that ultimately did not sit right with viewers.
It would be interesting to see if she were to be brought back somehow for season 5, so she could get some kind of redemption. Next season, Nandor should have to take responsibility for his actions and face Marwa’s revenge or at least have someone avenge her.
Nandor’s Last Wish
Surely, fans wouldn’t collectively agree with this take, but anything could happen. After serving as Nandor’s familiar for about 13 years, it’s difficult to picture Guillermo becoming a vampire at this point.
Nandor would probably save his wish for something stupid since he wished for Marwa to like everything he likes and then for her to be an exact replica of Freddie. Although Nandor has shown a lot of growth, it’s a bit up in the air whether he’s transformed into a better version of himself.
Colin Robinson
The finale was a whirlwind with the end of Nadja’s nightclub as well as Colin’s youth. If anyone in the group has had the most transformative experience over 4 seasons, it’s Colin Robinson.
Laszlo was a proud papa to Colin, teaching him the ways of supernatural creatures, supporting his musical theater interests, and most importantly, encouraging him to hop the fence at the zoo to look at baby rhinos. Sadly, those days appear to be over.
End Credits Song
Instead of the usual opening theme, “You’re Dead” by Norma Tanega, Matt Berry showed off his musical chops. As the cherry on top, all the characters continued Laszlo’s singing of “Sunrise, Sunset” from the musical, Fiddler On The Roof at the end credits.
Being the title of the episode, the song was very fitting given that it is an end to what once was theirs but is no longer. They must all now start anew.
