According to a February 2024 report by Variety, production for the new season is scheduled to begin later in 2024, with a release date set for May 29, 2025.

As Carrie prepared for her final dinner in her apartment, Samantha reached out with a call. She intended to surprise Carrie by flying in from London for the occasion. Unfortunately, her flight was delayed. Nevertheless, Samantha managed to pay her respects to Carrie’s apartment through a heartfelt phone call. Although brief, this interaction was monumental for fans who have longed for Samantha’s presence.
After their conversation ended, Samantha sweetly kissed her phone, a moment that And Just Like That showrunner Michael Patrick King revealed was not scripted during the finale edition of the show’s official podcast. He clarified that this phone call was not intended to be a grand moment between the two characters.
“In my vision for the multiverse of And Just Like That/Sex and the City, they’ve always been in contact. Texting and talking, not just Carrie but also Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte,” he explained. “We’ve reduced the texting this season because it felt like we were overusing the element.”
Kim’s appearance was initially announced in June 2023. The Golden Globe-winning actress reportedly filmed her scene in March without any direct interaction with Sarah Jessica Parker or Michael, according to Variety. Prior to the episode, it was revealed that the scene would feature a phone conversation between Samantha and Carrie. During a June 29 interview, the actress expressed her joy about returning to the role. “I don’t think I’ll ever say goodbye to Samantha. She’s like many other characters I’ve portrayed over the years; I become emotionally attached and protective of them,” Kim shared on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna. “She has given me so much, and I deeply appreciate her.”
Reflecting on her experience playing Samantha again, Kim stated, “It felt like dipping my toe back into a time capsule and enjoying a wonderful afternoon followed by a delightful martini.” When asked about her potential return for season 3, Kim coyly responded, “That’s as far as I’m going to go.”
