More than 30 million power users are willing to pay for AI-powered effects and other Snapchat subscription features.
More than 30 million people subscribe to one of Snap’s paid plans, including Snapchat+ and its ad-free Platinum tier. The company announced the milestone in its third-quarter earnings report, alongside an 84 percent year-over-year increase in non-advertising “other” revenue.
Snap launched Snapchat+ in 2022 with bonus features, including the ability to see which friends rewatched a user’s Story. Since then, the company has introduced Lens+, a subscription for AI-powered augmented reality effects; Platinum, which removes advertising; and paid storage for Snapchat Memories.
Snap did not disclose how subscribers are divided among its plans, but said Lens+ had grown nearly 600 percent since January 2026. The company attributed demand for the subscription in part to AI features such as AI Photoshoot, an AI-powered photo editing tool. CEO Evan Spiegel said on the earnings call that AI-powered features had helped Lens+ exceed expectations and that creative experiences could drive demand for paid products.
Snap is less closely associated with AI than some social media companies, but its results show that AI features have helped attract paying subscribers. Earlier this year, X reported about 6.3 million paid subscribers across X Premium and Grok.
Subscriptions were a bright spot for Snap, while advertising revenue grew “below our ambitions,” according to Spiegel. The company added 2 million daily users since the previous quarter and said it would focus on reporting monthly active users instead of daily users starting in 2027. Snapchat currently has 977 million monthly users.
Snap also warned that legal challenges and increased regulatory scrutiny of youth-related issues could affect its prospects. The company faces multiple lawsuits alleging safety issues, and state attorneys general have urged Snap to adopt additional safety features following Meta’s high-profile settlement.
