Roland has introduced the innovative FP-40 digital piano, which features integrated Wi-Fi connectivity. While many pianos offer Bluetooth connections, the addition of Wi-Fi is a significant advancement. Unlike instruments that require external Wi-Fi adapters, the FP-40 effortlessly connects to your home network, functioning just like any other smart device.
This Wi-Fi capability greatly enhances the use of educational apps and associated software. While pianos equipped with Bluetooth, such as the popular Casio PX-S7000, can link to specific teaching apps, Wi-Fi ensures a faster connection, leading to a more fluid user experience.
To complement this feature, Roland is launching a new educational app named Piano Sphere. This app provides “guidance, real-time feedback, and an extensive library of popular songs and high-quality lessons.” Users will utilize a smartphone or tablet for many app functions, though the FP-40 will autonomously manage certain tasks. For example, it records practice history, allowing users to track their progress. if it detects a player struggling, it lights up a button to offer assistance.
When connected to a mobile device, the app presents a user-friendly visual interface similar to Casio’s Music Space. The transition from Bluetooth to Wi-Fi is expected to significantly minimize latency during practice sessions.
Another advantage of utilizing Wi-Fi is the automatic updates for both the app and piano software. Roland assures users that they will receive “new services, feature enhancements, and ecosystem integrations that enhance the piano experience over time.”
The FP-40 also boasts impressive sound quality, powered by Roland’s proprietary Piano Reality Sound Engine. This technology captures the depth, detail, and tonal richness of an acoustic piano. The instrument features fully weighted hammer action keys with a triple-sensor system, delivering “exceptional responsiveness and natural expression,” making it ideal for learners and bridging the gap between digital and acoustic pianos.
A newly designed speaker system enhances low-frequency depth, providing a more authentic listening experience. the piano is equipped with a Bluetooth receiver, allowing users to stream music from external sources for an enjoyable playing experience.
The Roland FP-40 is available in both black and white finishes, priced at $750. This is significantly more affordable than Roland’s flagship models. It is currently available for purchase.
