At the recent D23 media event, Disney officially unveiled plans for a sequel to the beloved Lilo & Stitch remake. The first film achieved remarkable success, grossing over $1 billion, making it the first live-action/animated hybrid to reach that milestone. It was also Disney’s standout live-action film of that year, and now fans are eager to learn more about the upcoming storyline.
Event attendees were given a sneak peek of a new character: a pink, furry creature with two glowing antennae on her head. This character is Angel, also known as Experiment 624. In the Lilo & Stitch animated series, she made her debut in an episode titled after her, part of a larger narrative where Lilo, Stitch, and their friends encounter various experiments created by Jumbaa. Each experiment possesses unique abilities, and Angel’s power involves hypnosis through a siren song that can alter someone’s morality. When sung in its normal form, it can turn a good person into an evil one, and when played in reverse, it has the opposite effect.

This hypnotic ability affects regular individuals and experiments created prior to her, which means Stitch is not influenced. Despite this, the two characters develop a mutual affection for each other. Angel makes only one additional appearance in the original cartoon, but she features more prominently in the anime series. Like Stitch, she has garnered a substantial fan following. The couple has even made appearances at various Disney resorts, including those in Tokyo, Paris, and more recently, Hawaii. This year, Disney has promoted their relationship through music videos and animated shorts, likely laying the groundwork for this exciting announcement.
Children’s films often pair male leads with female counterparts—consider How to Train Your Dragon and The Bad Guys. It’s no surprise that Angel is included in Lilo & Stitch 2. Her involvement provides a solid foundation for potential future live-action Lilo films. Unlike some of Disney’s other live-action remakes, which had to start fresh to create sequels, this film benefits from the rich lore of the animated series. It presents numerous experiments for the duo to find and care for, any of which could serve as engaging material for a third movie.
The success of Lilo & Stitch 2, set to hit theaters on May 26, 2028, will ultimately determine the direction of future installments.
