Google has introduced new transparency features for ads that incorporate artificial intelligence elements. Users will gain access to a dedicated information panel whenever Google’s system identifies the use of AI in an advertisement.

As depicted in the image, viewers can access a new feature titled “how this ad was made” by clicking on the three-dot menu of a Google ad. This feature will provide insights into whether AI technology was utilized in the ad’s creation.
According to Google: “We aim to simplify AI disclosure management for advertisers. When they utilize our generative AI advertising tools to create ads, we will automatically include a disclosure in each ad’s My Ad Center panel. For ads created through other platforms, we are implementing a control that allows them to indicate if generative AI was used.”
To ensure accurate detection of AI usage, Google will implement its proprietary SynthID technology. SynthID functions as a digital watermark that enables Google’s systems to recognize AI-generated content. Google plans to integrate C2PA metadata signals to enhance its AI labeling capabilities.
The positioning of AI disclosures will depend on local regulations, with some tags appearing directly on the ad, either automatically or when the advertiser chooses to use this control.
As the use of AI tools proliferates among creators and brands, the importance of AI disclosures continues to grow. These tools are being adopted to streamline workflows and generate content more efficiently.
With the increasing release of assistive AI tools, their utilization will naturally expand. Providing transparency, particularly in advertising, is vital for fostering understanding and context for consumers.
