“I would say God and my mom. She’s the one who would drive hours just to check on me to ensure I was okay and not making any irreversible decisions. You know what I mean? I prayed a lot and spent quality time with my family because there were moments when I felt stepping outside would lead to negativity directed at me. I had never experienced anything like that before. Being in an environment where conflict was rampant, and then facing the reality of that negativity for the first time was completely overwhelming.”
