In a heartfelt social media announcement, McBride stated, “I want to clarify my position. I will not be performing at the Great American State Fair on June 25th. Initially, I was offered a chance to perform at a nonpartisan event, but that assurance turned out to be misleading. After asking numerous questions, I was led to believe that this was a nonpartisan celebration intended to honor all 50 states.”
She continued, “I envisioned this as a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the states and unite people through music, similar to the many state fairs I have participated in over the years that celebrate community and the unique qualities of each state. It sounded enjoyable and wholesome. recent developments revealed that what we were told is not the reality.”
“Throughout my career, I have sung about real individuals facing real issues,” McBride expressed. “I have been fortunate to be a voice for those who felt unheard. It deeply disturbs me that any fan who has connected with my music might feel abandoned by the messages behind those songs. I assure you that is not my intention. I value every fan who has reached out, and I look forward to returning to the DC area soon.”
Bret Michaels Withdraws from Performance
Bret Michaels shared his decision in an Instagram statement, saying, “When this opportunity first came to my team, it was framed as a musical celebration of our country and a tribute to our veterans, active military, first responders, teachers, and hardworking Americans from all backgrounds. Unfortunately, what was initially presented to us has transformed into a more divisive situation than I was prepared to engage with.”
He further elaborated, “Concerns have been raised regarding the safety of my fans, band, crew, family, and myself, including threats that are both unfounded and unacceptable. As a result, I have made the challenging decision to withdraw from this performance.”
Young MC Announces Withdrawal
“I HAVE INFORMED MY AGENTS THAT I WILL NOT BE PERFORMING AT THE FREEDOM 250 EVENT,” Young MC stated in a Facebook post. He emphasized, “The artists were never informed about any political connections to the event.”
The rapper added, “Despite the organizers’ claims of a nonpartisan event, SPIN magazine describes it as ‘Trump-backed.’ I hope to perform in D.C. soon at an event that is free from political controversy.”
C+C Music Factory Vocalist Pulls Out
Freedom Williams, the vocalist of C+C Music Factory, revealed in a video that he instructed his agent to withdraw him from the event due to the lack of transparency regarding its political ties.
“My agent didn’t mention Trump at all. I received numerous texts warning that ‘We’re going to cancel C+C Music Factory; this is going to be a terrible show,’” Williams recounted in his video. “So, I told my agent, no, I’m not comfortable with that. I have no association with Trump. I reject the chaos he brings. The day I allow anyone to dictate my actions is the day I cease to exist.”
