Since his dramatic disappearance, Star Wars has meticulously developed the character of Kylo Ren. This expansion is primarily attributed to writer Charles Soule, along with artistic contributions from Will Sliney and Luke Ross. They have delved into the complex journey of Ben Solo, detailing his descent into darkness, his rise as the leader of the Knights of Ren, and his early tenure as Supreme Leader of the First Order. Although plans for a standalone film have been scrapped, Lucasfilm is keeping the momentum alive with a new comic series.
Later this year, Soule and Sliney will collaborate again on The Fall of Kylo Ren, a five-issue miniseries that takes place before Rise of Skywalker. Following the events of the Legacy of Vader comic, Kylo Ren returns to the First Order only to discover that Generals Hux and Pryde have destabilized it with their deceitful ambitions. Like past Sith Lords, Kylo aims to reassert control by instilling fear in both generals, aiming to forge a more formidable First Order.
“This is the one book I’ve been eager to revisit,” Sliney expressed in a statement to IGN. “From the moment Charles and I began working on The Rise of Kylo Ren, we knew we were part of something significant. The enthusiasm from fans while we created Rise was unparalleled, and behind the scenes, we had been discussing Fall for a considerable time.”
“Kylo’s narrative (and Ben Solo’s, naturally) always felt monumental to me,” Soule added. “I’m excited to share new stories about one of Star Wars’ most iconic villains once more. It became evident that there was much more to uncover beyond what the films presented, and crafting these tales has been a true joy.” In his newsletter, he hinted that the comic will “bridge Kylo’s journey to the point we see him in the opening scene of Rise of Skywalker. [Legacy] provided him with clarity and even a hint of happiness. Fall is the crucial final piece of his story.”
Mark your calendars for the release of Star Wars: The Fall of Kylo Ren, which will be available starting August 12.
