Kyrsten Sinema’s boyfriend, Matthew Ammel, is embroiled in a contentious custody battle with his estranged wife. The ex-wife claims that Matthew has a history of drug abuse, including narcotics and psychedelics, according to reports from TMZ.
In March 2025, Matthew’s estranged wife, Heather Ammel, filed legal documents seeking custody of their three children and child support.
Heather alleges that Matthew has a history of “uncontrolled bouts of anger.” She claims he often expresses this anger by punching walls, destroying furniture, and yelling at her during fits of rage.
Heather states that she married Matthew on October 23, 2010, and they separated on November 1, 2024. Together, they have three children: Clara, Isla, and James.
She claims Matthew has a pattern of substance abuse, including marijuana, narcotics, alcohol, and psychedelics. Heather asserts that he continues to misuse these substances.
Heather further alleges that Matthew regularly travels abroad to acquire illegal drugs. She expresses concern that he leaves these substances accessible to their children.
Heather claims that Matthew has verbally abused her in front of their children, using derogatory language and insults.
Heather claims that Matthew moved out of their home in November 2024 but frequently appears uninvited.
Matthew has denied all allegations made by Heather regarding drug use and verbal abuse.
As reported by TMZ, Kyrsten has filed court documents challenging a lawsuit initiated by Heather. The lawsuit alleges that Kyrsten was responsible for the breakdown of Heather and Matthew’s marriage. Kyrsten admitted to the affair but denied any wrongdoing in North Carolina, where the lawsuit was filed. She contends that the case should be dismissed due to jurisdictional issues.
