Therapy Insights from Halle Berry’s Ex David Justice on Marriage

Halle Berry’s former husband, David Justice, believes that professional therapy might have been the key to salvaging their marriage, even three decades after their separation.

David shared this sentiment during a candid discussion on Matt Barnes’ popular podcast “All the Smoke.” He reflected on the challenges that led to the unraveling of their relationship, expressing his thoughts without hesitation. Notably, he revealed that he felt Halle, known for her role in “Monster’s Ball,” lacked the nurturing qualities he desired in a partner, particularly when it came to raising children.

In the podcast clip, David articulated his thoughts, stating, “At that time, as a young man, she didn’t cook or clean and didn’t seem to possess the motherly instincts I was looking for, which ultimately led us to face significant issues in our relationship.”

David attributed his misconceptions at the time to his limited experience in relationships. He also unfairly compared Halle to his mother, which may have contributed to the misunderstandings that plagued their marriage.

He further explained that their busy work schedules often kept them apart, which exacerbated their relationship difficulties and made it challenging for them to connect meaningfully.

The couple ultimately divorced in 1996, just three years after their marriage began in 1993. Both subsequently moved on and found new partners, starting fresh chapters in their romantic lives.

Halle, for her part, married singer and actor Eric Benét in 2001; however, their relationship ended in 2005. She later married Olivier Martinez in 2013, but they too separated two years later, even though their divorce was not finalized until 2023.

Since 2020, Halle has been in a relationship with musician Van Hunt, marking another chapter in her love life.

On the other hand, David has been happily married to Rebecca Villalobos since 2001, enjoying a stable and fulfilling relationship.
