The announcement came directly from the company’s CEO, Aravind Srinivas, who shared on X that the Windows version of the Comet browser is complete and that invitations have already been sent to a select group of early testers. Additionally, Srinivas hinted at the exciting possibility of a future release for Android devices, noting that development is progressing rapidly and even ahead of the planned schedule, which has generated considerable anticipation in the tech community.
In May, Perplexity introduced a beta version of its AI-driven Comet browser, initially exclusive to Mac users utilizing Apple Silicon. This intelligent browser is equipped with a variety of integrated AI features, including the ability to answer user questions, identify potential discounts in shopping carts, and uncover previously unanswered emails. A standout feature of the beta version is the “Try on” capability, which allows users to upload their photos and see themselves virtually wearing selected clothing items, showcasing the browser’s innovative approach to online shopping.
While an official launch date has yet to be confirmed, Srinivas previously hinted at a forthcoming release in an earlier post on X. Currently, interested users can only sign up for a waitlist, but the browser is already generating considerable buzz and some controversy. During a recent podcast interview, the CEO made remarks suggesting that Perplexity would utilize the Comet browser to gather data beyond the app itself for enhanced user understanding. Srinivas later clarified on X that this comment was misinterpreted, assuring users that “every individual will have the option to opt-out of personalization” concerning targeted advertisements. Once launched, the agentic browser is expected to compete with alternatives like Opera Neon and similar offerings from Google and OpenAI.
