This weekend marks the highly anticipated Star Wars Day, and to celebrate this momentous occasion, Lucasfilm has exciting news to share: the announcement of a brand-new book. Unlike many recent titles that focus on the beloved Original Trilogy, this latest release takes us into the intriguing realm of the Sequel Trilogy—specifically, it centers on the character of Finn.
According to a recent update from Penguin Random House, the former Stormtrooper portrayed by John Boyega in the films will take center stage in the upcoming book titled The Last Order. This young adult novel, penned by the talented Kwame Mbalia—the author of Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky—will follow Finn and Jannah, a character introduced in Rise of Skywalker, as they embark on a mission to track down a First Order officer who is responsible for abducting children to transform them into future soldiers. Throughout their journey, the duo will confront their own complex histories as former soldiers of an oppressive regime, which promises to add depth to their characters.
For those who may need a refresher on Rise of Skywalker, the film concluded with a tantalizing hint of Jannah (played by Naomi Ackie) teaming up with Lando Calrissian to search for her family. It has always been somewhat unclear whether Lucasfilm intended to further explore this storyline in Lando’s ongoing movie or TV project, but it seems that this narrative thread may continue in The Last Order, alongside Finn’s own backstory. Notably, Finn is the only member of the Star Wars sequel trio whose backstory has not been fully developed like those of Rey and Poe. If this new book serves to address both Finn’s past and provide insights into his Force training, we wholeheartedly support this creative direction.
According to the listing from Penguin, Star Wars: The Last Order is set to be released on October 21, making it a must-read for fans eager to dive deeper into the Star Wars universe.
