Homicide and Rape: Hollywood Producer Found Guilty by Jury

In just two days of deliberation, the jury sided decisively with the prosecution, which revealed a disturbing pattern of behavior exhibited by Pearce. The charges not only included the alleged rapes and murders of Giles and Cabrales-Arzola but also encompassed sexual assault accusations from seven additional victims spanning from 2007 to 2021, illustrating a troubling history of predatory actions.

During the trial, Pearce was found guilty on multiple charges, including three counts of forcible rape, two counts of sexual penetration by force, and one count each of rape of an unconscious person and sodomy by force, as reported by KABC. This extensive list of convictions underscores the gravity of his crimes and the impact on his victims.

Following the verdict rendered on Tuesday, Pearce’s sentencing is set for March 13, where he faces a potential sentence of 148 years to life in prison for the two counts of first-degree murder. This severe punishment highlights the judicial system’s commitment to holding dangerous criminals accountable for their heinous actions.

Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman emphasized his office’s dedication to pursuing justice for victims of such horrific crimes. In a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, he affirmed that they will “prosecute to the fullest extent of the law those who illegally provide fentanyl and destroy lives, especially those who commit sexual assaults.”

“Today, a serial rapist was held accountable for the deaths of Christy Giles and Hilda Marcela Cabrales-Arzola, both of whom tragically died due to fentanyl poisoning, alongside the victimization of seven other women across Los Angeles,” Hochman continued. He praised the bravery of the women who came forward to report the crimes committed against them, highlighting the importance of speaking out.

Seven different women testified in court, detailing their experiences as victims of the sexual crimes perpetrated by Pearce, who falsely presented himself as an “entertainment producer.” THR noted that it appears he has no legitimate production credits, raising further questions about his deceitful persona.

According to reports, the jury did not reach a verdict on two counts related to being an accessory after the fact against co-defendant and actor Brandt Walter Osborn, who was arrested on the set of NCIS: Los Angeles in December 2021, as per the New York Post at that time.

A third individual, cameraman Michael Ansbach, was also arrested in connection with the deaths of Giles and Cabrales-Arzola, yet he was never charged with any crime, raising concerns about the extent of accountability in this case.

In the case against Osborn, a mistrial was declared, according to KABC; it remains unclear whether prosecutors will attempt a retrial. A hearing to determine this has also been scheduled for March 13. Osborn is currently out on bond while Pearce remains incarcerated.

Initially, the deaths of both Giles and Cabrales-Arzola were thought to be due to drug overdose; however, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office ultimately determined in April 2022 that both women’s deaths were classified as homicides. This significant ruling led to the criminal charges against Pearce in July 2022, marking a pivotal moment in the case.

Two separate toxicology reports, obtained by People, revealed that both women succumbed to “multiple drug intoxication.” Additionally, Cabrales-Arzola experienced multiple organ failure, shedding light on the severity of the situation and the effects of the substances involved.

Christy Giles, 24, was found to have a lethal combination of cocaine, fentanyl, and ketamine in her system, along with gamma-hydroxybutyrate acid, commonly known as GHB, which is infamously recognized as a date-rape drug, raising alarm about the intended nature of the drugging.

Meanwhile, Hilda Marcela Cabrales-Arzola, 26, tested positive for cocaine and MDMA, along with other indeterminate substances. She ultimately died from multiple organ failure, further complicating the narrative surrounding her tragic end.

In November 2021, both women attended a party in downtown Los Angeles before heading to what was later identified as Pearce’s residence, setting the stage for the tragic events that followed.

“Twelve hours later, three men dressed in black and wearing masks dropped Christy off on the sidewalk of a hospital,” a GoFundMe created for the women detailed at the time. “Christy was already dead and pronounced dead at the scene,” highlighting the shocking and tragic circumstances surrounding her death.

“Two hours later, the same vehicle with two masked men dropped her friend, Hilda, off at a different hospital,” the account continued. Eleven days later, just one day shy of her 27th birthday, Cabrales-Arzola was taken off life support, marking a heart-wrenching end to her story.

As detectives began their investigation, THR reported that they were able to establish that both women had ordered rideshares from Pearce’s residence within an hour of their arrival, yet neither left until they were dropped off at area hospitals 11 hours later, raising serious questions about their final hours.

In the case against Pearce, as reported by KABC, prosecutors contended that his DNA would not have been found on both women, including under Cabrales-Arzola’s fingernails, if they had not been drugged and sexually assaulted, presenting a strong argument for his culpability.

“This is no accident, no mistake,” the prosecutor argued in court, asserting that this was a calculated attempt by the defendant to “get away” with his crimes that had persisted for years, further emphasizing the need for justice in this tragic case.

While on the witness stand, Pearce denied administering any drugs to the women, claiming that when he returned to the room they were in with Ansbach, who was arrested but never charged and became a key witness for the prosecution, he discovered all three unconscious.

Having known each other for 20 years prior to the night in question, Ansbach testified that Pearce provided the women with two glasses of wine and him with an energy drink mixed with vodka, which he described as having “a distinctly terrible taste.” This testimony raised further doubts concerning Pearce’s intentions that night.

Pearce recounted that upon finding all three unconscious, he assumed they merely needed to “sleep it off.” He stated he took Giles to a spare bedroom and Cabrales-Arzola to his own room, where he fell asleep, insisting, “My DNA was everywhere,” while denying any allegations of sexual assault against them.

In Osborn’s testimony, per KABC, he stated that after arriving at Pearce’s residence that night, he went to bed shortly after with the young women. He recalled hearing Pearce ask them if they wanted wine, which raised red flags regarding the events that unfolded afterward.

Osborn admitted to being present with Pearce when they brought Giles to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center but claimed he had no knowledge of the license plates being removed. He expressed confusion when a security officer inquired about it, labeling Pearce as “an idiot” for making such a reckless decision.
