Status For Youth: Donate Your Facebook Status To A Charity
Reading time: 2 – 4 minutes
Some days it seems like the whole world is falling apart: greed and selfishness, our economy is in extreme turmoil, people are becoming more and more angry and scared and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight. Don’t turn your head from this but don’t worry your pretty little head to the point where you are useless. We have a chance and a responsibility to pay attention to what is going on and to at least promote awareness if nothing else – awareness is the first step, after all.
It is not just that we are women and mothers, and it is not just up to us, this is about humanity. It is up to us as the human race to stand up. We have grown past riots, now we have technology and blogging at our fingertips, everyone has a voice, so use it.
I have felt this way for a long time and a recent philanthropic endeavor by Facebook and Aviva have given us all an easy, and great first step into a better life for everyone. It is so simple and it may seem almost like you have done nothing – but by you and I doing this we can create awareness. So many are unaware of the things that have been occurring, and before we can expect them to stand up we must first let them know what is going on.
From now until August 30th you can donate your status to Status for Youth. On August 30th, everyone’s donated status will go live. You will get to choose between four charities that all support underprivileged kids: Adopt a Classroom, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Covenant House, and Help USA. Each charity will receive a portion of $100,000 from Aviva. This is also the first time that Facebook has done a “hold and then launch”, so be a part of it.
They are calling it Youmanity on Facebook and you will be able to track your influence on Aviva. To donate your status go to Aviva’s Facebook page and select Status for Youth on left-hand side – there are descriptions of each charity available. I am going to leave you with their promo video, please comment and let us know if you have donated!
